Chase 9 Months Old – Such a Big Girl!

I know I say this in every monthly milestone post, but I seriously can’t believe our sweet baby girl is 9 months!

Here are some 9 month photos

We had a professional photo shoot and got some spring and Easter pictures with Chase’s Easter basket.

Baby Milestones

Chase has been crawling backwards and now has started moving forwards! She’s also pulling up to stand. She’s now also eating cut pieces of banana, avocado, and steamed carrots. She’s just started drinking some from a sippy cup too. She doesn’t have teeth yet, but her two bottom front teeth are trying to pop through. Should be any day now! She loves saying mama and dada all the time and babbles often. ๐Ÿ™‚

She’s 20lbs 1 ounce (77%), 29 inches long (90%), ย 18″ head circumference (97%)

We have a lot of events coming up, one we are in the middle of driving to while I write this post. ๐Ÿ™‚ More on that coming soon!

Chase 8 Months Old – Lots of Love

Chase is 8 months old! I can’t believe it!!

8 Month Pictures

I only got two pictures with her chalkboard when she realized it was there and took her hand and swiped it across the writing. ๐Ÿ™‚

Some photos that I have posted on Instagram.

Big Changes

Since our last update, Chase has graduated to a big girl car seat. Instead of moving the carrier in and out of the seat base, she is in a big comfy seat and we carry her into/out of the car. It’s nice to not have to lug a heavy car seat carrier around anymore. She never made a peep about the change. She seems to still like driving and just quietly plays and sometimes falls asleep depending on how long our trip is.

We got her a Peg Perego Primo Viaggio 5/70 in Licorice (black leather). Since the seat doesn’t unsnap from the base (like a carrier), we got one for each vehicle. We were very happy with our Peg Perego carrier so we just went with the seat, plus it had good reviews. We are very happy with how well they fit in our SUVs and how the seat/leather look.

Chase is also using rolling around as a mode of transportation. ๐Ÿ™‚ She’s also able to move from lying down to sitting up in her crib. She is also very close to crawling and loves to pull herself up to standing.

Baby Nutrition

Chase is now on to Stage 3 foods, including new flavors like organic salmon, chicken, and leeks. Stage 3 foods are heartier combinations and chunkier in consistency. We still feed her Stage foods sometimes just because she enjoys the flavor combinations.

Baby’s First Valentine’s Day

Chase’s first Valentine’s Day was so nice. We got her a card, a couple valentine books and a Pottery Barn chair with her name. She seems to really enjoy her presents. ๐Ÿ™‚ We then took in valentines for her class and her teachers.

She really enjoys reading. Here she is having story time with daddy before bed. So sweet! ๐Ÿ™‚

Lots of love!! Can’t wait to see what next month brings!

Chase 7 Months Old – Baby Love

Ugh! 7 Months snuck up so fast!! My mind is swirling on all the items that are happening with Chase and to what is ahead of us. Like changing from lying back to get a bath to sitting up, mastering the sippy cup, enjoying teething biscuits, and drooling a ton, and biting everything. Plus soon she will be ready for actual pieces of foods, we need to baby proof, she will be changing classes at daycare, and we need to get new car seats soon!

Here are some sweet 7 month pictures of Chase. ๐Ÿ˜€

Baby Sleep

I still can’t believe that after not being a great sleeper for the first 5 months, that Chase now sleeps really well at night. She goes to be around 7pm and we may get up once or twice at night. She rouses around midnight and if she can’t get herself back to sleep I feed her. If she does get back to sleep then she’s up again at 3am for a feeding.

Baby Nutrition

Chase has been eating very well! She has explored a lot of stage 2 foods which include mixes of various fruits and vegetables. Chase has added to her palate the following foods: blueberries, broccoli, quinoa, apricot, white beans, pumpkin, avocado, and chick peas.

Other Stuff

Chase got to attend her first birthday party ever for her friend Kyleighย who was 1 year old. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hanging out with her pug Coco. Coco is not good at holding still to be pet, but Chase keeps trying. ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t think Coco will know what to do when Chase is able to run after her.

A couple sweet moments with Chase in her nursery.

Ugh!!! So much baby love that my heart bursts!!!

Comeback Year

I hope you all had an amazing holiday! I’m so late posting this that I’m sure most of us have moved on from thoughts of Christmas. I’ll just say quickly it was an amazing time for us as with our new family. It was such a joy to see Chase experience all the aspects of Christmas for the first time: church, opening presents, lots of toys. ๐Ÿ™‚ Just warms my heart!

So on to the new year! Happy 2014!!

As Drew likes to say, “it’s the year of the comeback”. Meaning we are all ready to get back to the business of running and training hard. Well in my case training hard, will be easy to accomplish. My fitness is so low that most runs feel hard. It’s like I’m starting all the back to the beginning. Except in this case, I know that with consistent hard work the pain will eventually become less and less and the euphoria that running brings will be back.

I won’t be crushing my PRs and still I like the idea of referencing this year as a “comeback year”. I think it will be a year of finding balance of everything we have going on. My training is lighter, but the time I can commit will be more meaningful. The time I’m committing takes me away from Rob and Chase, but at the same time promotes my health so I can hopefully be with them more in the long run. ๐Ÿ™‚

I also can’t wait for the warm weather to come back so we can get out for walks and bike rides as a family. ๐Ÿ™‚

My race plans for 2014 are starting to form, right now I have the following on my radar.

  • St. Pat’s 5K – March
  • Lincoln Memorial Half – April
  • CCHS 5K – April
  • IL Half Marathon – April
  • Lake Run 12K – May
  • Galesburg 5K – June
  • Park to Park 5M – July

More to come as events get announced. For now I’m gearing my training to get me in shape to run IL Half Marathon. My training plan is very easy and comprises of 3-4 days of running. As I was saying, I’m basically starting over from scratch so I have to be careful and ease back into things to try to prevent injuries. Also, this light plan will also work best with balancing working, taking care of an infant, and taking care of the house. I built this training plan from Runner’s World Smart Coach and adjusted the days of the runs to fit my schedule. Since I am just looking to get more fit, I don’t have a race time goal. I’m basing my paces by level of effort. Which actually works out perfect because perceived effort can change if it’s been a hard night with baby or something like that.

Here’s how my easy training has gone so far:

Week 1

  • 4 Miles Easy
  • 3 Miles Easy
  • 4 Miles Tempo w/2 Faster Pace

Week 2

  • 3 Miles Easy
  • 5 Miles Long
  • 4 Miles Interval

Week 3

  • 4 Miles Easy
  • 4 Miles Easy
  • 3.7 Mils Easy (Baby woke up, didn’t get to 5 miles, oh well)

Week 4

  • 4 Miles Easy
  • 3 Miles Easy
  • 2 Miles Easy (bagged long run, wasn’t feeling well for a few days)

I feel good that while this plan won’t bring a bump up of speed I do feel like it’s getting me into a good practice how to fit running in around everything else. For weekday runs I try to get them done at 4am if the baby is sleeping. Weekends I try to complete them during her first nap. Onย weeknights I’m studying for an insurance exam (which is hard to do and not fall asleep). I’m terrible at taking tests so this may not end well, but at least I’m trying. ๐Ÿ™‚

I can’t believe a month of “training” has already passed. I know it’s not much, but I’m excited that the running year has all begun!

Please share any goals you have for 2014! I would love to hear about what’s on your radar for the coming year.

Chase 6 Months Old – Big Girl Moments

Chase is having big girl moments nearly every day. It’s so amazing to watch her sweet personality develop. All the little things like she crosses her legs when she lays back to relax and that she loves blowing raspberries. She even woke herself up in the morning blowing them, too cute!

Baby Info / Milestones

Chase weighs 16 pounds and 9 ounces.

Chase is now eating solids twice a day (lunch and dinner). She’s eating ย a lot breast milk/formula so much so now that we’ve gone from 75% being breast milk to now 75% is formula. My supply isn’t keeping up, but I’m still able to supplement her.

Chase is passing toys from one had to the other, her pincher grasp is improving, and she is able to lean forward and grab toys while in a seated position.

6 Month Photos

We also had a 6 month professional photo shoot. It was early afternoon, right after Chase’s nap and she wasn’t willing to give out her big smiles just yet since she woke up in a strange place. ๐Ÿ™‚ We still got some sweet pictures.

Baby Sleep / Mama Sleep

After Thanksgiving Chase got the flu and then she was constipated. Needless to say eating well and sleeping well both took a hit. It was a very hard few weeks. As soon as she was feeling better her eating was back on track and then it was time to get her sleep figured out. We bit the bullet and went cold turkey to the crib. She was fussy, but at it was amazing how after a short amount of time she was putting herself to sleep. The longest she fussed was 35 minutes. Don’t get me wrong, it was the WORST 35 minutes of my life. Rob had to help me from rushing to her. After her fussing she was sleeping in her crib 5 hours or more at a time! Other nights she was fussing only 2-9 minutes. Now she can sleep 10-12 hours straight! When she wakes up she will fuss and put herself back to sleep. When she has trouble soothing herself, we try a few minutes using the CoCaLo Perfect Calming Center Baby Mat and it usually does the trick. It is truly amazing to have Chase successfully sleeping in her crib. And the added bonus is I’m getting quality sleep too! ๐Ÿ˜€

My Workouts

My workouts were non-existent during the three weeks Chase wasn’t feeling well. But after things came together with her sleep I was able to start running a couple of miles here and there again. Plus finally sleeping better was making me feel better all around.

I will begin a new training plan after Christmas for the IL Half Marathon. In comparison to my pre-baby training plans, this will be very conservative. Still it will feel so rewarding to embark on a training plan while also working and being a mom to an infant. I’ll have more to share on that in a future post. ๐Ÿ™‚
