IL Marathon Training: Week 8 Day 4

What a week! It flew by!!

So Monday I did 9 Miles Easy on the Exercise Bike followed by some random strengthening exercises.

Tuesday we had an awesome opportunity to speak to our local running clubs training program for a local race. The group is called “Catch The Wave” and it gets together weekly for a few months to help provide people pace groups to do training runs with and share running information. Rob and I were asked to come and speak to the group on our experience of losing over 100lbs collectively with our training and nutrition changes (I’ve lost 48lbs and Rob has lost 65lbs). It was a bit of an off the cuff speech where we went over how we went from zero running experience to completing multiple marathons and I BQed. I was so psyched to share our story. I do need to sit down and write it out and make a page for it on the blog. One of my favorite parts was getting to say that people shouldn’t worry about saying they are not a runner or a marathoner because I used to say those same things and it’s surprising what can be accomplished incrementally over time. And if you aren’t sure about a marathon, what’s the worst that’s going to happen? You get picked up by the SAG wagon? So what, you still get a story out of the situation. I did have another thought that I forgot to say there because there was so much to cover so I’ll say it now in case anyone who hasn’t raced or raced a longer distance reads this blog.

I guarantee with every finish line you cross you will leave with a new experience and a new lesson. Aren’t you curious to know what it is? I know I am!

After our 15 min speech we got to run with one of the pace groups and I got to hang out with one of our friends. I was so excited to get to spend some time with her. I got in 3.08 Miles Recovery. It would have been about 5 Miles had I remembered to start my Garmin after the water and stretching breaks, but oh well no worries.

Wednesday was 11 Miles VO2 Max W/6 X 100M Strides at 5K Race Pace. And tonight was 15 Miles Med-Long.
