2010 IL Marathon Expo

We drove to the IL Marathon Expo today to pick up our packets for tomorrow. This is only the 2nd year of this Marathon and they have already shown that they have improved the event. The layout for packet pick up and good bags was in a much better order because they used more space to separate the two pick ups, making the traffic flow much easier. The expo was also divided into two paces, plus the shopping available at the expo this year was much larger. The selection from the local running store of IL Marathon gear was not only more extensive, but the gear was much cooler this year. I wasn’t planning on getting anything this year, but ended up getting a tank because it was too cute. The IL Marathon shirt that came with our registration though was not that great. I would say that I preferred last year’s design. This year’s design has a lot of seams in it, which are not runner friendly when sweat gets into the equation. So I’ll use it for shorter distance runs, but it’s also not the worst shirt I’ve ever got from a long distance race either.

The reusable goodie bag, I really like this one:

The front of the women’s Marathon shirt. Not too shabby, but with this many seams that could be danger and it’s long sleeved, so won’t really wear it much until the fall I guess.

Back of shirt:

The tank I bought. I love it! It’s very soft!

A storm is moving through the area over night. I hope it passes in time so we are still able to race. Even if we are delayed, as long as we can race I’ll be  happy. Time to go soak in some Epsom Salt and mentally get ready to do this again. I hope my legs are ready!

IL Marathon Training: Week 10 Day 2

Ah the last week before the next marathon! With the shortened training cycle since our last marathon was in February this taper isn’t as dramatic and feels more tolerable. Too much of a taper gets me antsy. Tonight was 6 Miles Recovery. In an attempt to do a better job of strength training I’m going to try documenting what I do here. Tonight was real quick I did: 2 Wall Sits (60 secs ea.), 1 Reg Plank (1 min), 1 Side Reg Side Plank (30 sec each side), 1 Set of 15 Reg Push Ups.

IL Marathon Training: Week 9 Complete

I think this is the first time it’s taken me until the end of the week to post. With this being taper week there hasn’t been much to say about my runs. I’ve done a lot of recovery miles and some interval work. I’ve stuck to the treadmill lately. Today was 13 Miles Long. I’m getting tinges of pain that seem to move around on my body depending on the mile. Nothing more than tinges right now so I’ll keep them in check with BioFreeze, Aleve and Epsom Salt soaks.

And I know I sound like a broken record, but I really need to give more time to my strength training. I’ve been doing push ups and ab work here and there and not recording it. I need to get into a routine again to help me prepare for Chicago.

Here is how the week ended up:

M: Rest

T: 5 Miles Recovery (Treadmill, 1% Incline, 38:31, 7:43 Pace)

W: 5 Miles Recovery (Treadmill, 1% Incline, 38:30, 7:42 Pace)

R: 4 Miles Recovery (Treadmill, 1% Incline, 30:40, 7:40 Pace)

F: 7 Miles General Aerobic W/ 10 X 100M Strides @ 5KRP (Treadmill, 1% Incline, 52:57, 7:34 Pace)

Sa: 9 Miles General Aerobic W/ 3 X 1600M Strides @ 5KRP (Treadmill, 1% Incline, 1:06:03, 7:21 Pace)

Su: 13 Miles Long (Treadmill, 1% Incline, 1:37:32, 7:31 Pace), Push Ups

Total: 43 Miles

It’s so strange that the next full marathon is this Saturday! The weather forecasted right now is not good, thunderstorms and 40% chance of rain. Will have to wait and see as the day gets closer to get the detail on what it will be like that morning. Still a 60% chance of awesome!

IL Marathon Training: Week 8 Complete

After yesterday’s race I had 3 Miles to get in to make my mileage for the week so I did 3 Miles Recovery on the treadmill later that day. I guess technically this would count as my first two-a-day, although it really didn’t feel like anything since it was just some extra mileage to get in and wasn’t planned to be on this day.

Today I set out on my 20 Mile Long run that completes the peak training for the IL Marathon. From the beginning of the run I felt sore and tired. Then there was quite a bit of wind to contend with. Needless to say it wasn’t my worst run, it just took a lot more effort and was less joyful than usual. I felt every mile this time. Luckily I was able to see our friends Mike and Jamie while running! Jamie was out walking the dog so I got an extra boost of energy seeing them towards the end of my run and she was even cool with me giving her a sweaty hug. 🙂

This week is also a new weekly mileage PR! 67 Miles!

Here is what it looked like:

M: Bike 9 Miles Easy (30 Minutes, P1, L4, 18mph), Upper body and lower body strengthening

T: 3.08 Miles Recovery (Out with the Catch the Wave group, 28:31, 9:16 Pace)

W: 11 Miles VO2 Max W/6 x 100M Strides @ 5KRP (Treadmill, 1% Incline, 7:39 Pace)

R: 15 Miles Med-Long (Treadmill, 1% Incline, 1:59:25, 7:58 Pace)

F: 9 Miles Recovery (‘Hood, 1:14:02, 8:14 Pace)

Sa: 1 Mile Warm Up (8:31 Pace), 4 Mile Race (27:16, 6:49 Pace, 1st AG), 1 Mile Cool Down (9:05 Pace), 3 Miles Recovery (Treadmill, 1% Incline, 23:43, 7:55 Pace)

Su: 20 Miles Long (‘Hood, 2:41:23, 8:05 Pace)

Total: 67.08 Miles
