Chicago Marathon Training: Week 1.1 Day 1.1

I’m repeating Week 1 of my training plan three times so I can start it now instead of waiting until the official start of 6/22, hence the indexing as Week 1.1 Day 1.1.

Today is Rest/XT so I did:
Bike 4.5 miles (18mph pace, P1, L4)
Walk 1 mile (7% incline, 13:56 pace)
Leg Strengthening and Abs

I’ve decided to put into my cross training some walking up steeper inclines to try and build my hamstrings and glutes for hill workouts. I wish I would have thought of this sooner to better prepare for Steamboat 15K, which is a VERY hilly race from miles 3-7. The last time I ran it I said a Half Marathon was easier, now a year later I want to see if I feel the same way about this race. The awesome part is that the 4 mile race option is flat and fast. It’s a World Record setting course, attracting some of the best, which includes Women’s Winner of the Beijing Olympics Marathon, Constantina Dita! How cool is that?! Apparently this will be her eighth Steamboat. I really hope to run into her at the expo or race day.

And my favorite workout song and in general these days is “You and Me” by Dave Matthews Band. It makes me think of Rob and how wonderful he makes everything.

  1. Can't wait to read about your workouts! Good cross training workout yesterday – what exercises do you do to strengthen your legs? I need some new ideas! 🙂

  2. Cross training will definitely help you out with those hills! Good luck!

  3. good luck with all your training!!! chicago is going to be so fun for so many of you runners 🙂 i want to run it one year!just downloaded the new DMB cd 🙂 cant wait to listen!

  4. The winner at Beijing is a BEAST! Watching her run was absolutly amazing. She smoked that. If I ran into her at an expo, I would probably just drool on my self.Good luck with your training! 🙂

  5. I Run Like a Girl – Hey there! My leg routine is a lot of exercises with ankle weights (lunges, side leg lifts, leg lifts, hip flexor raises, kick backs) and then others like squats, hamstring (hip) raises. Nothing too major, just some moves I have pulled together from Runner's World and websites.Agenlina – Thanks! I hope so!Aron – Thanks! I'm betting Chicago is going to be so amazing! The new DMB album is great! I love so many songs like "Lying in the Hands of God", the mellow sound is very 311 to me.Amy – I will freak out if I see Constantina! I freaked out when I met Bart Yasso. I hope she is at the expo so I have a chance at a picture and autograph.CJCJ
